Cooking
Remember, your haggis is already cooked and only requires heating until it is piping hot. If your haggis is frozen, defrost it thoroughly before cooking. The following is a guide only.
Oven Method
Remove your haggis from the outer printed packaging and wrap it tightly in foil. Place your haggis in an ovenproof dish with 2cm of water and heat at 180°C (gas mark 4) for the recommended time for your specific product (see table below). Remove the haggis casing and clips before serving.
Pan Method
Remove your haggis from the outer printed packaging and wrap it tightly in foil. Place your haggis in a pan, cover with water, and gently simmer until piping hot throughout – see the table below for recommended cooking times. Remove the haggis casing and clips before serving.
Please note: this method is only suitable for smaller haggis products, as a very large pan would be required for any products larger than the Serves 4-5!
Microwave Method (800W Category D)
Remove your haggis from the outer printed packaging, inner skin and clips. Cut it into pieces and place in a microwaveable dish. Cover and heat on ‘medium’ power ('low' power for our cocktail haggis) for the recommended time (see table below), stirring once during cooking and once before serving.
Please note: microwave ovens do vary; adjust times accordingly.

Storing your haggis
Fresh: haggis purchased fresh should be stored between 0-5°C, and is given a use by date of four weeks from the dispatch day (the use by date will be shown on a white sticker for fresh haggis).
Frozen: haggis purchased frozen must be stored at -18°C, and is given a best before date of 12 months from the dispatch date (the best before date will be shown on a yellow sticker for frozen haggis). If freezing a haggis purchased fresh, use within six months.
Travelling with haggis
Your haggis can travel unrefrigerated for up to two days. Try to keep your haggis as cool as possible - a cool-bag is ideal. Otherwise, wrap your haggis tightly in bubble-wrap to insulate it as best you can for the journey. You can take haggis abroad as long as it does not contravene the country's import regulations. You can take haggis to any EU member state, if travelling elsewhere it is best to check beforehand. Haggis can be taken onboard aircraft as hand luggage, but packing it in your main luggage can help keep it cooler.
