Macsween vegetarian haggis celebrates 25 years with Great Taste Award

Macsween of Edinburgh, the leading haggis brand, has won a Great Taste Award for its vegetarian haggis. The awards from the Guild of Fine Food are an important benchmark for speciality food and drink products.  In this case, Macsweeen's vegetarian haggis, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2009, was given a gold star by the judging panel.

Jo Macsween, Director of the company said:

"We are delighted that our vegetarian haggis is celebrating its birthday with this award.  It is testament to the product's qualities as a tasty alternative to our traditional haggis."

The vegetarian haggis was created by John Macsween to celebrate the opening of the Scottish Poetry Library in 1984.  The product now accounts for 25% of all Macsween haggis sales.

The Great Taste Award judging standards are known for their rigour.
Every entry is blind tasted by two teams of experts, working separately but simultaneously.  Both teams comment on each entry.  The judging panel comprises leading chefs, food writers and buyers.  The awards, now in their 16th year, are an authoritative, independent standard for fine food.
