What is Haggis?

Haggis is the legendary national dish of Scotland, immortalised by the poet Robert Burns in the 18th century and is still a much loved dish all over the world.

Honouring this particularly Scottish delicacy, we take great care making the unique Macsween haggis and use only the finest ingredients. Lamb, beef, oatmeal, onion, and a special blend of seasoning and spices are cooked together in a natural casing.

Haggis is the culinary centrepiece of the Burns Supper celebrated on 25th January, the anniversary of the Robert Burns’ birthday. You can read about the ceremonies, speeches and other dishes that surround the haggis on our Burns Night pages.

Beyond the iconic presentation of haggis at annual tributes to Burns, this wonderfully versatile dish is increasingly appreciated throughout the year. Haggis is a gastronomic gem and makes regular appearances on the menus of cafés, bistros and restaurants across the land. Culinary interpretations include delicate canapés, spicy pakoras and even haggis lasagne. For recipe ideas and details about our wide product range go to our Haggis Recipes pages.
